Child-oriented redesign
New Nursery School in Ghedi, Brescia
The transformation of the northern building of the Ghedi school complex has created a new 36-place nursery school, which is being built in record time to meet the educational needs of the community. With an investment of €1.4 million, financed by the PNRR and Conto Termico 3.0, the project is designed as a model for an innovative and sustainable public building.
DVArea accompanied the renovation project of the existing structure from concept to construction supervision, adopting an integrated and transdisciplinary approach that involved the administration and educational staff in order to translate educational needs into architectural solutions. This dialogue made it possible to consider the space as a “pedagogical actor” and to ensure that each design element supports the teaching activity and the well-being of the childrens. The “evaluation matrix” used analysed functional, qualitative and socio-economic aspects and was fundamental to the design decisions.
The building refurbishment includes new indoor and outdoor spaces, higher ceilings in the classrooms, large windows that promote connection to nature and a new portico that allows the use of outdoor spaces in all seasons and contributes to the energy efficiency of the building by protecting the south-facing classrooms from excessive sunlight.
Attention to the well-being of the children is combined with advanced technical solutions: photovoltaic systems, automation for energy control, acoustic comfort and accessibility improvements. The new building fulfils nZEB standards and consumes around 30% less primary energy than a conventional building. The executive design has been approved. DVArea will now have the delicate task of supervising the construction and ensuring that the project is completed within the tight deadlines required to receive PNRR funding.
