An international training center for women’s artistic gymnastics

Artistic gymnastics arena, Brescia

The complex inaugurated in Sanpolino has been conceived as an integrated ecosystem dedicated to high-level women’s artistic gymnastics, establishing itself as one of the few facilities in Italy capable of combining specialised training spaces and accommodation within a single entity.

Promoted by the Municipality of Brescia and Brescia Infrastrutture, the project was designed by a Temporary Grouping of Designers led by DVArea, the lead firm for the final and executive design, together with Architect Giuseppe De Martino, Progetto CMR, and Geolambda Engineering.

At the heart of the project is the new 1,250 sqm gymnasium, equipped with regulation apparatus for women’s artistic gymnastics and designed to host national team training camps, technical stages, and international club activities. The facility meets the standards set by national federations and sports promotion bodies, in compliance with CONI regulations, aiming to obtain recognition from the Italian Gymnastics Federation (FGI) as an official federal training centre.

Adjacent to the main gym is a second 117 sqm space dedicated to warm-up and athletic preparation, directly connected to the changing rooms and medical room, ensuring functional continuity between the different phases of training.

The gym is directly connected to the residential facility through glass doors. On the ground floor are the dining hall, kitchen, and hospitality areas, while the first floor is dedicated to 42 beds and a study room, allowing athletes to balance training with their academic commitments.

The building features advanced technical solutions, such as high-performance energy-efficient window systems and optimised building services management. Externally, the project includes paved pedestrian pathways and large green areas, with vehicular access reserved exclusively for the maintenance of technical facilities.

The new structure is not just a training space, but a specialised centre for the technical and competitive development of women’s artistic gymnastics, capable of attracting training camps, collaborations, and international presence. It is an infrastructure that strengthens Brescia’s position within the national sports landscape.

“After 20 years of practicing sports at a semi-professional level, it was extremely rewarding for me to take on the role of architect in coordinating and designing such an important sports complex for Brescia. From today, in fact, our city will not only be home to the best Italian gymnasts, but will also be able to host national teams from all over the world, thereby becoming a center of excellence for the athletes of today and tomorrow.”
