A center of excellence for athletics in Brescia
Indoor athletics arena, Brescia
The Sanpolino district is gaining a new indoor athletics arena, which stands out nationally as one of the most advanced indoor facilities in Italy for hosting major competitions.
Promoted by the Municipality of Brescia and Brescia Infrastrutture, the project’s final and detailed design was carried out by a Temporary Grouping of Professionals led by Consorzio Progetto DVA as lead partner, together with architect Giuseppe De Martino, DVMep, and Geolambda Engineering. Construction was executed by a Temporary Grouping of Companies including Consorzio Nazionale Cooperative di Produzione e Lavoro “Ciro Menotti”, Consorzio CON.CO.S. Società Cooperativa, Giudici SpA, Termotecnica Sebina Srl (now City Green Light SpA), and FL Costruzioni & Autotrasporti Srl.
In a context marked by significant procedural complexity and strict deadlines linked to the PNRR, the consortium ensured rigorous schedule control. The integrated and interdisciplinary approach enabled all deadlines to be met, guaranteeing the reporting of the allocated PNRR funds – approximately €7.5 million in total – and successfully delivering a public work of strategic importance for the area.
The architecture is defined by a striking, lightweight geodetic roof spanning large distances, a technical solution that allows the arena to be covered without structural interference, ensuring maximum visibility and flexibility for sporting activities.
To ensure superior environmental comfort, particular attention was paid to acoustic design: the building’s interior is lined with micro-perforated, corrugated metal cladding, a key technological solution for sound absorption in large spaces, reducing reverberation during events and training sessions.
The facility is designed for maximum versatility: in addition to athletics disciplines, it can host martial arts and sport climbing, and includes a technical area dedicated to television filming and broadcast production.
The heart of the facility is the blue track, the first in Italy to be built entirely on a concrete base, requiring extreme precision with a tolerance of just 1 millimetre per metre. It is designed to guarantee top-level athletic performance while also providing an ideal surface for both competitive events and daily training.
The building is classified as nZEB -20% (nearly Zero Energy Building) and has been designed to exceed standard benchmarks by drastically reducing energy consumption. This is achieved through the integration of a 352 kW photovoltaic system (comprising 710 modules) installed on the roof. The energy system is complemented by connection to the city’s district heating network and the use of high-performance heat pumps, solutions aimed at maximising efficiency and minimising pollutant emissions.
The completion of the Sanpolino Sports Hub strengthens Brescia’s position as a Capital of Sport and confirms the group’s expertise in delivering strategic infrastructure with high social and territorial value.

“The Palaindoor of Brescia represents a strategic infrastructure for Italian athletics and a fundamental element in strengthening the sporting vocation of the Sanpolino district and the city as a whole. For DVArea, this was not merely an architectural project, but a complex integrated management operation: the coordination of the various specialized disciplines, in close collaboration with the institutions and entities involved, made it possible to meet the deadlines of the PNRR and to turn an ambitious goal into a concrete facility serving the community.”
