Digitalisation in the Airport Sector

Civil Airport of Milan-Bergamo, Orio al Serio (BG)

Milan Bergamo Airport, the company responsible for managing the Bergamo-Orio al Serio Civil Airport, has appointed Bimfactory for consultancy on the digitalisation of the entire airport sector.

A project designed to bring BIM implementation interventions progressively developed across multiple scenarios, which includes an initial phase of audit and training, the management of tendering procedures, information validation, and up to the implementation of facility management system based on information models that will allow the company to manage all assets through a true digital twin of the airport.

To date, the main activities carried out have primarily focused on the following areas:

  • Training and alignment/implementation process in accordance with the requirements of Regulation 36/2023 regarding information management
  • Selection of the ACDat platform, design and configuration of logic and workflows
  • Support for BIM Management, including verification and validation of ongoing design and as-built models
  • Support in the development of Information Requirements and tender procedures for the awarding of design, construction management, and construction works contracts

Following these general setup activities and the consolidation of processes and procedures, further developments will be extended by the end of the year to the asset’s maintenance and management phase. A first pilot project is planned, based on a variety of input data (models, point clouds, photogrammetric meshes, etc.), to test the use of a BIM-oriented facility management platform designed to support operational management through an advanced ticketing system.
