A Long History of Regeneration
The new Polytechnic School, Genoa
The Erzelli hill will host the New Polytechnic School of the University of Genoa: 100,000 square metres of total built area will be located within the Great Campus, an innovative scientific and technological park designed to accommodate companies and research institutions and to promote a culture of innovation.
The project originated from the Programme Agreement signed in 2007 between Genova High Tech (Ght), the Liguria Region, the Municipality of Genoa, and the University of Genoa, and will include the new headquarters of the Faculty of Engineering with all its departments. The project – whose preliminary design was signed by Mario Bellini Architects in 2010 – after several years of accelerations and abrupt halts, resumed at the end of 2017.
It is at this moment that DVA, together with DVMEP and Bimfactory from the DVArea group, and other professionals such as Progetto CMR, Zanardi Ingegneria, and the team with Professor Paolo Oliaro, were awarded the assignment from EuroMilano for the preparation of the subsequent project phases: the final design, which is preparatory for obtaining the necessary permits to build, and the working drawings aimed at the tendering and construction site work.
The role of DVArea, through multilevel interdisciplinary coordination and the use of BIM methodology, has been crucial in establishing a common reference point for the client and all professionals and entities involved in the new University project. This enabled the successful completion, in a total of 12 months, of both the authorisation process of the final design and the working drawings, as well as the verification and validation activities.

“Reconnecting the threads of such a complex project, unfolded over time and involving numerous stakeholders, including Unige, public authorities, GHT, and EuroMilano as project manager, required a significant effort, both in terms of coordination and time.”
“With DVA, we embraced an open project management process. The design management of a complex building like the new headquarters of the Polytechnic School was based on strong synergy among the engineering teams, project coordinators, the client, and the entire supply chain.”
