DVA featured in the “100 Italian Green Building Stories” report by Fondazione Symbola

On Friday 29 April, we took part in the presentation of the report “100 Italian Green Building Stories”.

One hundred case studies that tell the stories and explore the technologies and solutions for sustainability and the circular economy, aiming to provide an overall snapshot of a complex sector such as that of construction, highlighting the energy and talent already active in our country today. A collection of solutions, technologies and expertise related to architectural and engineering design, essential in the new market shaped by the Green Deal, the NRRP, and national tax incentives such as the Superbonus 110%, the Ecobonus, the Facade Bonus, and other home incentives.

It is a great honour for us to be included in this collection produced by Fondazione Symbola and promoted by ANCE and Fassa Bortolo. This confirms that the direction taken as early as 2015 is shared by other virtuous companies and enterprises representing the “Italy that wants to build Italy”, as emerged during the discussion among the speakers.

As outlined in the report summary, “the new ways of conceiving living spaces, the digital technologies applied to construction, and the objective of achieving full sustainability of the built environment require that the design of buildings be as innovative as the structure one intends to create. For this reason, design studios and companies have established multidisciplinary teams capable of providing appropriate solutions to the challenges of the twenty-first century. (…) DVA has rapidly established itself as one of the most interesting firms in the sector”.

Whereas traditionally construction lagged behind design, today—thanks to the use of BIM—the building contractor on site has all the information, both geometric and typological as well as economic, needed to realise the project exactly as it was conceived. Manufacturers of building materials and prefabricated components are investing in research focused on sustainability, circularity and reuse.

The path is clear, but much remains to be done, particularly in broadening the market base and enabling smaller firms to achieve, in terms of technological innovation and sustainability, parity with larger companies, ensuring that costs remain accessible to all.

Among the examples cited by Ermete Realacci, President of Fondazione Symbola, are data on construction waste, which has increased by 40% over the past 10 years. Although this material is recovered, it is not reused because companies still prefer to use virgin materials, which are more economical.

More generally, the common thread running through the contributions of Regina De Albertis (President of Assimpredil Ance), Domenico Sturabotti (Director of Fondazione Symbola), Paolo Fassa (President of Fassa Bortolo), Mario Cucinella (Architect and founder of Mario Cucinella Architects), Ermete Realacci (President of Fondazione Symbola), and Raffaele Cattaneo (Environmental and Climate Councillor for the Lombardy Region) paints a picture of a country undergoing change, where the construction sector—the most traditional of all—is regenerating itself through the efforts of designers, manufacturers, and builders with a forward-looking vision.

Because technique and innovation need the heart and mind of people to be effective.
